The battery wrench is the one tool every woman must have if her car has a battery with side terminals. This is the tool that inspired Single Woman’s DIY Guide.
I paid less than $15.00 for my first tool at a local store. I’m sure there are better quality battery wrenches in the world and I am sure some of you won’t be able to find one for the price I paid. But, let me just say that I would have paid $50 for this little tool on more than one occasion.
This is important! All battery wrenches are not alike. Some, like the one in the picture, are designed for GM (General Motors) cars and probably will work on most American cars. There is another one that looks almost identical to this that is made for cars that use the metric system and metric tools. Know which tool you will need for your car, standard or metric. Otherwise, it just won’t fit the knobby things that stick out of the battery — the terminals.
If you still can’t decide which of the battery wrenches will work on your car battery, ask a mechanic when you have the oil changed or have the tires rotated.
Why Should Every Woman Have a Battery Wrench?
Well, I suppose every woman should have a battery wrench in her car. But, if the car has a side terminal battery the wrench will be more important than all those jacks and things that are used to change tires.
For some reason on side terminal batteries, the cables jiggle loose over time. When the battery cables are too loose nothing works. The car will not start and the digital read-out on the radio or clock disappears. Most of us think our battery is dead and look for jumper cables. The truth is that my battery has never been dead, but my cables have been loose so many times my battery wrench is more important to me than my American Express Card — you know, the never leave home without it thing.
