Okay, so if you are going to paint, you probably want a pair of white bib overalls, a/k/a painters pants.  Now, look!  Most of us who are going to paint or stencil our walls are not going to stop to pose like the picture.  For God’s sake, if you are wearing painter’s pants and have paint and stencils everywhere you aren’t thinking about arching your leg on top of a step ladder.  The picture is just so you get an idea of what painter’s pants look like.

But, here is what is important.  Painters pants are the most logical clothing for painting.  Period.  First of all, white is a good color for painting.  When you wipe the brush on your pants leg, it will show up.  On denim, the color doesn’t always remain true.

I suppose if you still have any energy when you get through painting you can make designs on your painters pants.  I have never done it intentionally, but I have turned out a few pairs that were pretty colorful after a few projects.

Good painters pants — the real ones — are about as good as it gets when you are painting.  Even when using acrylic latex paint that washes up with water, you are going to get paint on you and it is going to dry before you can strip down and get the paint out of the material.  So, enjoy it.

In fact, I was in the queue at a local store one afternoon after painting and the lady behind me offered to buy my painters pants.   She thought I had bought them with all the colors on them.  Little did she know that I am a messy painter.

So, here’s the real scoop on painters pants.  There are loops here and there for hanging something, although I cannot imagine hanging a paint brush on my pants leg.  If you don’t want to spring for a pair of painters pants, a pair of denim bib overalls will work.  They just won’t look as good while you are painting.  Everyone knows painters wear white.  So, there you go.

Get a pair of painters pants before you decide to paint.  You won’t regret it.  And, if yours are like mine, you will be tired of the color of the paint before the pants wear out.
